Dear Members and Friends of Pleasant Grove,
Thank you for welcoming Faye and me to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. We appreciate this great Church. During the last 3 months, I have noticed so many who are leaders and PGBC is blessed to have wonderful believers serving. May I just name a few? Pastor Toby LeRoy, with the help of the office staff, Mary and Christy, has really stepped up to the plate and filled in several positions of ministry and service. He has certainly been an asset to me as I serve you. VBS was wonderful! I watched at each session how well organized VBS was and the excellent manner in which all of the workers fulfilled their rolls with excitement and joy. Amanda Ayers and Amy Parker are to be praised for a job well-done! Special recognition is expressed to everyone who went on the Haiti mission trip. It is brothers and sisters like these that God uses to take His message of love and grace to people around the world. There are many others who faithfully serve without any recognition, such as the Sunday School teachers, security team and several handymen. Please let them know how much you appreciate all they do!

TITLE: Transitional Interim Pastor
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE: The Transitional Interim Pastor, will function as Head of Staff, will bring spiritual guidance and leadership to the congregational life of the church, will respect and be sensitive to the wide diversity of backgrounds and views within the congregation within the context of teachings as denoted in the Holy Bible, will work with church leadership to identify and develop Spiritual direction, and will facilitate the transition to a new Pastor.
§ Accountable primarily to the Personnel Committee of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and to the Deacon body, as necessary.
§ The Personnel Committee will perform the responsibilities related to pastoral supervision as described in the Personnel Policies.
§ The Personnel Committee will negotiate any changes in the covenant with the Transitional Interim Pastor. Amendments to this covenant will be made in writing.
§ Employment may be terminated by either the Church or the Transitional Interim Pastor with thirty (30) days notice.
§ The Transitional Interim Pastor’s work schedule will reflect that of a full-time senior pastor.
1. Preaching and Worship
a) Serve as the primary leader of Spiritual teaching and worship
b) Works with church staff and music leaders to ensure that worship service and music are coordinated in such a way that the Lord’s Day Service and other occasions for worship reflect the mission and values of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
c) Prepares for and serves during the worship and study opportunities for Wednesday evenings.
d) Provides theological leadership in the life of the congregation through reading and study and initiating with the appropriate committees and groups opportunities for theological reflection and growth within the congregation.
2. Pastoral Leadership
a) Is diligent in the pastoral care of sick members of the congregation through pastoral visitation.
b) Provides officiating at weddings and premarital counseling or will assist the families concerned, if another pastor is officiating, as requested.
c) Provides pastoral care during and after the death of a congregational family member, and funeral or memorial services as requested.
d) Administers the sacrament of Baptism.
e) Works with the Deacons to administer the Lord’s Supper per church schedule.
3. Administrative Leadership
a) Provides leadership to the church staff, working with the Church Council to ensure a well-organized and effective staff team.
i) Maintains and enriches staff morale and encourages professional growth during this period of transition.
b) Will assist church leadership with the administration of the church and its properties.
4. Empowering the Congregation
i) Development Tasks
(a) The Transitional Interim Pastor helps the congregation to:
1. Come to terms with history
2. Clarify congregational identity and spiritual direction.
3. Respond positively to changes in leadership and congregational involvement
4. Build commitment for future pastoral leadership and a renewed vision for the future
ii) Encourages a strong ministry of the congregation, utilizing the spiritual gifts and practical, professional experience of the people and lead the church in winning the lost to Christ.
